And here, in reverse order of posts, is the shimpaku that just doesn't amount to much. I still like it, though, and will work on getting it in a good pot this year, where it can do some growing, and refine it more. It won't be ready for any show, but I like progressions, what can I say.

Hi Scott,

Is there any chance that that red Pine is a cousin to my red Pine? If it is yours looks a lot better! I also think this is a nice looking shimpaku with lots of potential for the future. This is of course my expert bonsai opinion. Talk to you soon Jeff

Jeff,
Hi there-nope, that red pine was a nursery tree I bought from Yabasukis in Berkeley. I'll put up some pics of the red pine that is the cousin tree to yours, and then you can check the progress of it. I'm glad you like the shimpaku-unfortunately, the branches should be similar in size, starting with the largest on bottom, then getting smaller as they go up. If you count up 5 from the bottom on the right side, you see how big that one is-and the 3rd one on the right side is small. But, who knows, maybe I can regrow all the branches above that bottom branch for the next few years :)
Talk to you later.
Scott
